CHBAR Health campaign in Ringlet on the 24th November 2015

The health campaign which was held in Ringlet Community Hall (Dewan Orang Ramai Ringlet) on the 24th of November drew a crowd of about a hundred people. At 7:45PM, people started to gather and the hall was slowly filled with loud and friendly chatters everywhere.

We began with the “Cameron Highlands Smoke Free Zone” talk by our REACH volunteer, Melody who spoke to the crowd in both Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia. Similarly to the previous health campaigns, the talk focused on the health hazards of smoking to smokers themselves, to the people around them and to the environment.IMG_0524 IMG_0519

The message was simple – “Love yourself and think others. Stop smoking!”

After that, the crowd made their way to the various health booths that were set up in the hall. REACH provided free Influenza immunisation and water testing for the locals.

The crowd slowly dispersed and the campaign finally came to a closure at about 10:00PM.

This campaign managed to draw a rather large crowd mainly because of the active involvement of the ‘Ringlet Women’s Welfare Association’ (Persatuan Kebajikan Wanita Ringlet). They began their walkabout and promotion by word of mouth around town one week prior to this campaign. And when our REACH volunteers did their walkabout on the 23rd of November, they were there to offer their helping hands and voices.

REACH would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Local Health Department ,the Ringlet Government Clinic and Ringlet Women’s Welfare Association for making this campaign possible.

We had a good time organizing this campaign and we hope that this collaboration will continue in the future to serve and bless more locals in Cameron Highlands.
