REACH’s recycling program has been in progress for the past two years. Initially it was meant for members and interested parties from the community. However, since last year, due to overwhelming public response, the recycling project has grown tremendously.

Currently our recycling program consists of the following:

1. Creating Awareness – Talks on recycling to groups and individuals. We have been quite successful in getting hotels like The Heritage, Equatorial and Kowloon to initiate recycling. So far only one school in Cameron Highlands, SRJK (C), Tanah Rata, is actively involved with REACH’s recycling program. Our grateful thanks go to Mrs. Lew, the principal of the school.

2. Transportation of Recyclable Materials to Processing Centers Initially we had many volunteers taking recyclables from the storage centers to the processing centers in Ipoh. However, as the volume of materials was still relatively low, the profit margin was lean. The only truck driver that continues to support us is Mr. Wong Kam Seng.

3. Compacting Site – We are currently negotiating with the local council, Majlis Daerah Cameron Highlands, and in association with a private company, to set up a compactor site in the highlands. Once this center is functioning, the volume of recyclables will be reduced tremendously and will facilitate transport to the processing centers in the lowlands. As an additional incentive to those who recycle, REACH hopes to initiate a “buy – back” scheme where you will be paid for the materials you bring for recycling!

4. Recycling of Electrical Products – We have set up a program with some Japanese Electrical Engineers from the Cameron Highlands (Japanese) Long Stay Club. Electrical appliances will be repaired if possible or else separated for recycling.

None of the above projects can run smoothly or successfully without your and the local authorities' co-operation. To volunteer or to become a member, please call +6012-589 8684 or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
