CSI Report by Mathide Aubouin and Dr Freddy Rivault
During our holidays in Malaysia, we wanted to be involved in meaningful experience. Through their website, we learnt about the different activities conducted by REACH in Cameron Highlands. The first meeting with Dr Liau was very interesting and we discussed for 4 hours about the wonders of wildlife and the issues related to the development of Cameron Highlands. Furthermore he introduced us to the stream water analysis programme : Community Stream Investigation programme (CSI).
CIMB/REACH Community Stream Investigation(CSI) Programme gathers momemtum
The CIMB/REACH CSI project was officially launched on the 21st November 2009 with a cheque presentation of RM 50,000.The aim of this project is to educate the local school community on the health of our rivers and how to monitor it. The first months were spent laying the groundwork such as getting permission from the Education Department , contacting the various schools in Cameron Highlands and preparing educational materials.
We have now reached the second phase of this project which is the Training of the Trainers/Teachers programme (T.O.T). It is hoped that once the teachers are trained, the various schools can conduct the CSI programme for their school children with some guidance and help from REACH.

Welcome to Cameron Highlands
Cameron Highlands is a resort town located on the main mountain range of Peninsular Malaysia. It is a picturesque highland retreat with colonial styled bungalows cast against a backdrop of lush green forest and undulating slopes of terraced tea plantations. However, over the past two decades the rate of development has been especially rampant. While it has benefited the local economy, poor planning and enforcement have led to environmental degradation. Landslides, silted rivers and dams, constant water disruptions and poor water quality have become the norm.
