22.5.15- Hi fellow Cameron Highlanders and our visitors from near and far. It is the start of the school holidays next week and a good time to ‘reconnect’ with the environment and lend our forests ‘a helping hand’. Come join us in saving Gunung Siku this 30th of May 2015 and plant a tree!
This reforestation event is organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment NRE with the participation of a few NGOs including REACH, MNS , PEKA and KUASA. This is the 2nd reforestation activity in Gunung Siku under “the Greening of Cameron Highlands Program.” The deforested areas include those illegal land clearings in the Forest Reserve taken back by the Government recently
Date: 30th May 2015
Time: 8am to 12.30pm
Place: The Forest Reserves of Gunung Siku- 5th Compartment, Plot 3 Cameron Highlands. ( The site was formerly illegaly cleared for farming but retaken back by the National Security Council (MKN) in March 2015). The acrage is around 3.8 hectares and an estimated 4000 trees will be planted.
Transport:
- For those with transport please gather near the mosque at Blue Valley close to the border with Kelantan at 8am.
2.For those without transport, please meet at the carpark ( Sunday Morning Market site) in Tanah Rata by 8.00 am. Bus transportation will be arranged to send participants to reforestation site.
Other information
- Please come in attire suitable for jungle trekking. It would be wise to bring a raincoat.
- Light refreshments and tree saplings for planting would be provided by NRE
- Participants should be reasonably fit as a short hike along a gradual incline is needed to reach the area concerned.
- For participants below 18 years, parental consent is required
