Reforestation is one of the core activities of REACH . Currently REACH has 2 main reforestation programmes ie
- Reforestation programmes in Gunung Brinchang and other smaller areas.
- Reforestation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment
1. Reforestation programmes in Gunung Brinchang
This began in 2001 in an illegally cleared land on a ridge in Gunung Brinchang. It is conducted from funds from private bodies. As this area is almost fully reforested, for 2015 the reforestation exercises were incorporated with other biodiversity activities such as bird watching, mossy forest educational walks, fertilizing the planted trees.. For future programmes it would include ‘planting’ epiphytes such as orchids onto existing trees.

- Reforestation programmes with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment NRE.These programmes are fully organised and sponsored by the NRE and is also known as the Greening of Cameron Highlands Programme. Once a site is confirmed , NRE will notify the government departments, NGO’s and schools .
On the 7th of March 2015 and 8th of March 2015, more than 500 participants took part in the reforestation exercise in Gunung Siku, Blue Valley.

On the 30th of May 2015 the 2nd reforestation activity was carried out, again in Gunung Siku. The site in the Forest Reserves was formerly illegally cleared for farming but retaken back by the National Security Council (MKN) in March 2015). The acreage is around 3.8 hectares and an estimated 4000 trees will be planted.

History of The Greening of Cameron Highlands Programme by NRE
Following the mud floods in Ringlet on the 5th of November 2014, the Federal Government stepped in to assist the State Government of Pahang to restore Cameron Highlands to its former pristine state ie. to restore law and order, especially where illegal immigrant workers and land clearing is concerned.
As a result of this large scale law enforcement work, many illegal workers were caught and farms demolished. These brought its own set of problems as demolished farms, usually on steep slopes were prone to erosion and the exposed areas had to be rehabilitated fast. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment NRE were tasked to reforest these areas with REACH and 3 other non-governmental agencies NGO . MNS , PEKA and KUASA
This programme spans 5 years which will include regular meetings and activities, including identifying areas to be reforested, collection of wildings, setting up nurseries and actual reforestation itself which is every quarterly.
The wildings (seedlings growing wild and not cultivated) are collected from local forests and species include Meranti bukit, Gerok, Medang kemangi, Mahang, Mempening, Kelai, Berangan and Gandis.
For those who are interested in our reforestation programmes , please contact Miss Saras nitiya31880@yahoo.com
Subjecte to the availability of funds, reforestation programmes for local residents are fully sponsored.
