Reforestation in Batu Gangan Site- 12th June 2017

On the 12th of June 2017 we began our reforestation in the Batu Gangan (not to be confused with Gangnam !) site. It was a bright and beautiful morning. We loaded the materials which including building tools, septic tank ,saplings and food into 3 vehicles and set off. Helping us were our 3 French volunteers ,Tom, Aurelien and Pablo,Reach members Siva, Kumar,Liau,Saras and others.

In Kuala Terla we met up with Encik Khairil and Danial ,who helped transport a water tank in their vehicle. It was fun initially but I found out later that driving SUVs into these roads needs ‘nerves of steel’ and can prove to be quite ‘expensive’.Upon arrival at the site, we separated into teams. The guys started digging a pit for the septic tank while we cleared up the site as best as we could. (From past experiences bringing teams for reforestation to other sites, toilets are a  neccessity ) Once the pit was ready, the  septic tank was inserted.

The team then adjourned for a homecooked lunch towards noon.

The water tank was taken to a proper site .

Once work for the day was completed, we planted some trees and Dr Liau was given the honour to plant the first tree at the site.
