RINGLET DAM DISASTER – FIND AND ADDRESS ROOT CAUSE OF PROBLEM

For more than a decade TNB has spent millions dredging the silt from the Dam. The Habu dam is infamously known as the largest silt trap in Malaysia. They dredge the sand and more comes in. The land clearing  and major development in Tanah Rata does not help. A few minutes of rain and the Sg.Bertam that flows to Robison Falls channels all the silt down to Bertam Valley.

24/10/13 – Ringlet dam disaster: Man-made mistakes contributed to deluge, says Reach

26/10/13 – Ringlet dam disaster: Residents along Sg Bertam must be relocated for river maintenance project, says Palani

29/10/13 – Cameron Highlands: Water level at Ringlet Reservoir rose 13 times faster than normal monsoon conditions – TNB

It comes as no surprise when we read the statements in the news paper that the volume of water rose at an alarming rate of 13 times faster beyond the dams carrying capacity.

So what do we do now?

Short term measures of deepening Sg.Bertam won’t help. Stop the land clearing that is bringing in all the silt.

Why this now?

At the rate they are clearing the land and leveling hills, one wonders where all the run-off is going too? With such massive developments how large should the slit trap be? Aren’t we also supposed to have retention ponds?

So please high cable powers that be and to the people responsible (or responsible people) please…
