The objective of this contest was to get students to build creative inventions using recycled materials. The contest was judged by Dr. Liau, Miss Kyoko Kaibara,a Japanese long stay resident, Mr. UthayaKumar, and Ms. Sharon Baker.
19 teams from 3 Secondary Schools from Cameron Highlands took part in the competition. The students ranged from a simple bird shelter to a complex water filtration system. Participants used common recyclable materials, such as water bottles, cardboards, straws, plastic bags and Styrofoam boxes. While many of the inventions were not practical, they showed great promise for future ideas. The most creative innovation was simple yet applicable because it consisted of 3 common day-to-day items that could break down styrofoam.
Each team presented their innovation on stage, explaining the materials and usage of their invention for approximately 5 minutes. They were judged based on presentation skills and creativity.
